If you replace the muffler on your Briggs and Stratton 5hp engine with an exhaust header it will completely change your engine's "personality". Your engine will sound like a racing engine and flames will literally shoot out of the end of the header when you decellerate. An exhaust header will not make your engine faster, just louder. The flames are cool and add to the excitement of the ride, especially at night. Kids of all ages love the effects a header provides.
The headers come with one exhaust gasket and a support strap. The support strap is used to prevent the header from vibrating. One end of the strap has a hole in it, this hole is used to bolt the strap down to the top of the engine. Use a muffler clamp or hose clamp to hold the other end of the strap to the header pipe ... OR ... weld the end of the strap to the header pipe.
You MAY be required to use different bolts to install the header if the bolts currently being used to hold your muffler in place have heads so large they interfere with installation. Use socket head bolts instead, if needed.
It's important that the header pipe not be able to move at all. If you can grab the header pipe with your hand and make it move it is not secure enough.
